BROADLANDS GROUP OF RIDING FOR THE DISABLED ASSOCIATION
'Riding for those who might benefit in their general health and well
being.'
The aim of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), in simple
terms, is to provide the opportunity of riding and driving for disabled
people who might benefit in their general health and well being. By the
experience these individuals gain through their contact with horses and
ponies, we hope to create a greater sense of achievement and confidence,
which in turn will make their lives easier and more fulfilled. These
benefits to riders, both physically and mentally disabled, are plain to
see - and helping riders to reap these benefits can be an enriching experience
for all involved.
Broadlands has been providing riding to people with disabilities since
Mrs. Flora Welch started the Group in 1955. Mrs Suzanne Stratford took over
responsibility for the Group after her mother's death in 1975.
There are lessons at Broadlands on Monday, Thursday and Saturday
through the term time. Riders are of all ages and capabilities. Some ride
for the therapy others for the sheer pleasure of being with a horse or
pony and a few enjoy competition and achieve success at dressage.
Volunteer Helpers are always needed at the lessons and you would be
made most welcome. If you would like to help, or would like further
information please contact Suzanne Stratford 01420 563382 or e-mail rda at broadlands-riding.co.uk

“Riding is my favourite hobby. It allows me to do so much more than I
can do under my own steam”
“It gives me much more independence, than I get in my wheelchair”
“I’ve been in a wood”
“I never thought my child would get a certificate for anything”
“He went to bed clutching his rosette and fell asleep with a smile on
his face”
